Abstract
In this study, the physicochemical characteristics, antioxidant activities, and inhibitory effects on tyrosinase and elastase of white-spotted flower chafers, Protaetia brevitarsis fed with Korean ginseng (GP) were evaluated and compared with those of non-fed P. brevitarsis (CP). The pH was higher in GP, whereas organic acids was higher in CP. The L (lightness), a (redness), b (yellowness), and ¥ÄE in GP was higher than those in CP. The antioxidant activities based on the total phenol contents, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity, and 2,2¡¯-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activity were not significantly different. The tyrosinase and elastase inhibition activity were significantly higher in GP, showing 44.99% and 59.44%, respectively. Therefore, GP is a potential source as an industrial raw material in health functional foods and cosmetics.
